Moose Success
« on: September 25, 2007, 09:20:39 AM »
I ended up getting a pretty nice bull on Sat.  1 shot 40 yards, 300 win w/ a 168 grn Barnes TSX.  Went about 30 yards and piled up.  Tacoma Crk drainage south of Calispell Pk.  Trying to get some clarification on scoring but my buddy and I did a rough score on him and he grossed out at over 170.  If we're doing it right he should net close to 160.

Nice looking bull.  Is that a WA bull or an ID bull?  I didn't think the WA moose season was open just yet.

Probably not nearly a 170 bull, moose are pretty tough to score, but who the heck cares.  Very nice moose.  Congratulations.  He is one heck of a trophy.  Well done!

Measurements:

43.5 width
21 pts
Left: 7 3/8 cir, 12 7/8 palm width, 37 1/2 palm length
Right: 6 7/8 cir, 11 1/2 palm width, 29 1/2 palm length

Palm length measurement is what we're not sure about.  We followed the B/C instructions right from the book but not sure we understood em completely?

Here is what I guessed with Jackelope as my witness.  I figured 44 width, 10 measureable points on each side, 7-8 inch bases.  I gave you better width of palm, which is where this bull stands out.  He has wonderful palm measurements.  Where he tanks you is the length, especially on the weak side with the fork.  Granted I am only looking at one pic, but the length credit will be for the one side and at this angle its short.  Your mass is incredible and nice, but as you have found out you don't get much credit for it.  Honestly a very nice bull.  If I had your tag I would probably have looked longer but thats easy to say from the cheap seats.  He is a GOREOUS bull.  I hope you are going to mount him.  Please don't take my words at a critique.  YOU DID GREAT!

Great Bull, congrats.  Hopefully this Monday when the general Moose season opens we can find one like that for my huntin partner.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
You are never to old to learn something stupid.

"Please don't take my words at a critique."

Boneaddict,
NOT at all man.  I'm very happy with the critter regardless of his score and what not.  And believe me, it has crossed my mind about taking 1 too soon and not waiting until later.  He just clearly out-classed everything I'd seen so far that I couldn't pass on him.

Question fer ya....  based on the measurements I gave, doesn't that gross 170+?  Or did my buddy and I totally butcher the B&C instructions?  We were probably 5 beers into the evening when we were reading em :chuckle:
