Good hunt for a bluebird day.
« on: November 21, 2015, 02:57:54 PM »
Before hunting hours I was literally seeing hundreds of ducks flying but it quickly slowed to pretty much nothing right at hunting hours. My buddy and I decided to move to a different spot and it paid off right away, we had groups of birds come in  that I would have normally not even tried to call at due to how high they were. We ended up with three drakes and two hens but they came in close and wings cupped. My dog did a great 70 yard blind retrieve. All of the retrieves he sat next to me and held the duck until I took it from him.

Good looking dog.  Mighty cold morning for a short hair I bet.   He earned his keep today.

He's a deutch drahthaar, hard to tell from the picture cause he's wet but he actually has a beard and a really thick coat.

What town are you from?   I can't tell if that's a cold eastside or westside spot.

Lookin' good there NW! Stunner of a day to be out once the thermometer clicked up a few notches.

This is about as cold as I'll have my guy in (shorthair). I bring something for him to sit on, a coat to go over his duck coat, etc. and I keep the water work to necessities, no splashing or fun swims...

I agree. I have two dogs, xeno the drahthaar and cooper a German shorthair. I limit my shorthair to only upland hunting or jump shooting ducks cause he gets cold really easy.
