slings for shotguns

Anyone here use slings on their upland guns?   Are you missing opportunities because your gun is over your shoulder and not in your hands.   I put one on my 12 gauge as it's starting to get a little heavy for me.

That's an interesting way to carry one.  Took some thought to come up with that.

I hunted earlier with CP and vandeman.   Both had slings on their guns.  One was a Browning Maxus and the other was a similar Winchester.

have a sling on my gun... only use it when my hands are full carrying stuff for duck hunting.  is nice to put on your shoulder while walking back to the truck after a hunt as well.

Mine is just a cheap sling, Allen I think, but it is invaluable for both upland and waterfowl hunts.

My shotguns have a swivel in the back but is missing one up front where it looks like yours attaches to the mag tube? Is this correct? Did yours come with an attachment of somesort up there or did you have to add something yourself?

Mine came with a clip in the forearm that the sling swivel snaps into - a feature of the Maxus

I have a cheap Allen Sling on mine. It just had the strap through a loop that fits over the mag tube. Had to remove the end cap and barrel.

I bought a magazine cap with a stud on the end for my 870, but we just looped the sling around the magazine tube on my wife's Mossberg 500.

They are quite handy and should not interfere with your ability to shoot game as long as you are not wearing it when near game.....

Two of my waterfowl guns have slings, I use them for going to and from the truck. Like likidog said you can get an after market cap with a sling stud for most guns. My SP10 came with them and boy does it need one, 10+ pounds. My other one (Baikal) did not have one in the foramen retainer cap, so I just drilled it up to .250 (1/4") and used a rifle stud I had laying around. I did need to trim the stud sown about 3/16' so it did not interfere with the magazine spring retainer. My backup Beretta came with a sling attachment that fits under the foramen retainer cap.

Slings are a hassle if you are hunting grouse in any kind of thick cover.

They are a Godsend if you need to walk or climb any distance or if you need to carry your dog back to the truck.
