Muzzleloader Late Hunt - My Muley
« on: November 23, 2015, 09:21:04 PM »
I wanted to share my Mule deer shot on Sunday morning for the late Muzzleloader hunt.  My favorite time of year to hunt.  Hunting opened Friday (11/20/15).  My dad and I hunted hard Friday and Saturday.  It was very cold.  Saw a nice 2x2 with no eye guards and a few potential 2x3's but no shots were taken.  Sunday morning my dad and I spotted a large 2 point and my dad decided to move in closer and check him out.  He told me he saw some leery doe's in another direction and told me to go check them out.  I went out and sat quietly.  Not 10 minutes later this beauty walked out 40 yards in front of me.  Got a bad case of buck fever and started to shake.  Took a few deep breaths.  He went down to eat the grass and I almost took the shot but made myself not go too early.  I took another deep breath and waited...a minute later he looked up broadside to me and I took a shot directly into his heart with my TC 50 cal. using 230 grain TC Sure Fire Sabot hollow points with 130 grain black powder.  Love getting a guy like this with open sites and in the late hunt.  This is one my dad and I will never forget!

Nice job.  Way to hold tight until the shot came to you.  Sounds like you guys got into some good hunting.  I've been looking forward to the late hunt, as well.  Blacktails on the 25th!

Are there any whitetail in the area you hunt?

Congrats on a fine animal. Glad you didn't fall to the slitting of his neck Superstition.

Thanks for the replies.  Only kept the horns and will mount them.  As nice of a 3 point that this is I'd need a 4 point Muley to do a full mount.

As for white tails thats a big negative.  Some blackies but mostly all Muley.  Some bench deer though.

Hi Marty.  No doubt huh?  You just missed it.  Got him just before 10.  The big 2 pt we saw was out in the field and this guy showed up out back.
