There are a lot of serious sportsmen on the Collville and Spokane Rez.  They are not one bit amused about this wolf nonsense.

They post here a lot:

When you get to know the sportsmen in the tribe you would be amazed how much you have in common with them.  The tribal members I have formed relationships with are serious and dedicated sportsmen and they are appalled at what is happening with this wolf introduction.  They see it as the federal government ONCE AGAIN trying to deprive them of their way of life and the resentment they feel is transparently obvious.  The tribal members I know are ranchers and horse trainers for the most part and all of them are avid sportsmen and to them this is about the federal government trying to deprive them of their livelihood and force them onto welfare and also to take away the traditions they have and prevent them from passing the sport of hunting down to the next and subsequent generations.

I don't Facebook either, but I stop by that site to keep up w/what friends have been up to.  AND yes, there are many serious sportsmen among the tribal members.  Like any group of individuals though, there are a lot for whom hunting is just another side interest or passing fad - but seek out those who are serious and you will find them.

When you first meet up they will be just as, or even more, standoffish about entering into conversations about serious hunting - but isn't that the way most serious hunters in general tend to be when they first meet someone new?

Once they see that you actually are as serious as they are though they tend to warm right up.   The serious hunters among the tribal members are on guard because there are some stereotypes about tribal members, not all of them unfounded, that do lead to a general prejudice among some non-native sportsmen and just like you and I they don't want to open themselves up to unwarranted attacks on their personal character.

My family is in Omak for Stampede week every year and that is where I have made friends from Nespelem and Inchilium who are family oriented people and are as true blue sportsmen as you will ever want to meet.  Whitie can't hunt The Rez for big game and Tribal members can and that, for a sportsman is like living in paradise on earth.  That does bring some resentment into the equation, but if it is just getting out - you will find invitations to "tag along" do come.

Tribal members take a great amount of pride in their land and I have found that they want to share it (show it off).  And who among us could blame them?  They like to share techniques and like to boast of their skills and show off their newest equipment just like we all do.  But, my impression is that Tribal members don't generally feel welcome outside of their own circle.  Our website is not in their comfort zone and you will rarely find them participating and that is our loss.

I don't want to cast aspersions, but Tribal members don't think that they will get the respect they deserve if they share with us.  But saying that is not to say that a lot of the reticence is that our forum is just not in their comfort zone the way their very own Facebook page is.

When I go on their page to see what friends and acquaintances have accomplished or what they are up to I know a lot of the faces and I know how hard they have worked in order to have something to share with others.  Sound familiar?

Posting outside the RBBP Facebook page is just asking to be unfairly sniped at by some jerk who doesn't know what they are talking about.  Who needs that?

You will find that the true sports among the Tribal members are very serious sportsmen who are just as committed as anyone you will ever meet.  If you open up to them, and they warm up to you, that is something you will find our real quick.
