TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - A former employee of a Twin Falls elk ranch has been accused of stealing elk semen and artificially inseminating elk at another ranch.

The Times-News reports that 30-year-old Brandon Eldredge was arraigned Friday on one count of grand theft.

Police say Eldredge stole the semen in 2011 and it was discovered the following year when owners of Early Morning Elk Ranch took inventory.

Eldredge was previously accused of stealing and selling antlers from Early Morning Elk Ranch. Those charges were dismissed.

According to court documents, the owners of Early Morning Elk Ranch say Eldredge used their elk bull semen to inseminate elk cows at another farm. The other elk ranch paid Eldredge for artificially inseminating their elk cows.

The other ranch says they paid Eldredge $3,000 for the semen.

Idaho man charged with stealing elk semen receives sentencing
.
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - A former employee of a Twin Falls elk ranch has been accused of stealing elk semen and artificially inseminating elk at another ranch has been sentenced.

Judge Dick Hardington was quoted as saying "Mr. Eldredge has committed one of the biggest bone headed things this court has ever seen". As previously reported Eldredge has previous convictions related to the illegal trade of animal parts and products. Surprisingly, his reference at another elk ranch named Early Morning Wood Ranch checked out and we were never suspicious said Richard Handy, a previous employer.

Officers were following up on a pretty big tip provided by a good Samaritan and were able to track Mr. Eldgedge and his semem smuggling activities. One officer was willing to speak to us off the record. He told the AP that the balls are now in the hands of the court but overall he is pleased with the length of the sentence handed down.

Here's to another law breaker doing hard time.
