My turn...THIEVES!!
« on: November 27, 2015, 10:30:25 AM »
Bastages cut the lock off the garden shed I built my wife last Feb and walked off with a brand new Stihl FS56 weed whacker, a Poulan Pro leaf blower and two 2.5gal gas cans!

My fault for going with a basic pad lock for the shed  :bash:

Cameras, better locks, more sensors for the security system and cleaning the shotgun now.

Arlington area.

Yep. Right behind my shop. Visible from the house but more than likely a night time deal. No flood light back there currently, but adding that as well. Current flood light faces the shop door.

That's unbelievable to me. I always wonder how people have the guts to do this type of thing. You'd think they would worry about getting killed.

This is Snohomish county you're talkin about! More feeders per capita than any other county I think. Getting killed is prob the last thing on their mind when stealing stuff to feed a drug habit.
Fortunately Karma catches up with them bastages but there's always a dozen more to take their place.

Yep. I suspect druggies, in fact I suspect someone from the RV complex that has developed behind the rental behind me! Simply walk across the yard, cut the lock and depart. I tried to track them in the frost but difficult to differentiate between our tracks and tweekers in the dark.

The great part is on top of the items I lost (approximately $450) I have spent $500 today on locks, lights, cameras etc... then I still get to go replace the stolen items! So my advice to anyone that wants to learn from my mistake is DON'T SKIMP ON YOUR LOCKS! $150-$200 for a high security lock that cannot be cut or picked easily is well worth it when you look at the overall cost of item replacement, security upgrades and you time dealing with it!

Go Fort Knox from the start and don't worry. If someone really wants in, chances are they are going to find a way and that the chances of being caught and or prosecuted are slim to none. My steps are to hopefully determine a direction of travel for entry and exit and or add deterrent layers. Cutting one standard padlock in the dark is easy, getting through a lock that can't be bolt cut or pried off only to then need to cut a different lock all while under the glow of floodlights and the watch of cameras while in direct line of sight of a residence maybe makes them move on and at least helps my wife relax a bit.  :twocents:

I know thieves suck, sorry it happened to you.  Don't you have renters or theft insurance?  A small monthly payment would cover a lot of valuables.

Thanks

Not worth dinging my homeowners insurance for less than $500.
