Mixed bag day :)
« on: November 28, 2015, 07:33:16 PM »
Howdy!

Hope everyone had a good turkey day and were able to spend it with friends and family! Hope you also made it out for some hunting :)

Ended up with a mixed bag today, including my first goldeneye and first shoveler ever!

You shot those at kapowasin lake right? Of course you did cause I've seen you out there plenty of times. I'm all about people having good hunts and putting birds in the boat, but have you considered about other people's hunt you ruin every time you go out there paddling around shooting birds on the water near the shore? I know other hunters including me get out there 3-4 hrs before shooting time put in the time throwing decoys and sitting in the cold passing time until shooting light, eager and ready to shoot birds. 2 separate times now I've had birds circling my decoys and about to commit but flare because of you shooting at birds on the water. It ruins my hunt and others people's hunt. It's not just me that thinks that I've heard other people talking about you and saying the same things. It's bad enough we have to deal with the fishermen this late in the season it's even more BS that you show up right at shooting light and ruin other people's hunts. So maybe next time you go paddling around out there take into consideration of the other hunters on the lake because your not the only one out there!

Wow he must not of read the duck hunting rules at the boat launch that say hes not aloud to hunt in a different method then you think are ok . You should of called the game warden for him hunting in a legal matter. If you dont like it buy your
own lake and do what you want.

Yikes, first post on here and you drop that kinda talk? Better make sure and say hi to me next time you 'see' me, because I know there is more than just myself hunting out there and using that same kayak partner. I do know plenty about giving folks their space and have been out there several times with three groups or more hunting right in the same area. It happens and you're right, I'm not the only one out there. You also don't get half the lake to yourself either just because you went and pissed on a corner of the lake first.

Someone flicks their light at you from the shore you go the other way and setup on another corner, I always have respected that. I see decoys when I'm going around a corner I wave and keep going past. I've talked with many folks out on the water, getting in and out at the launch; not a single one has ever said that I ruined their hunt or 'hey don't do blah blah blah' or even given me a pissy attitude. If anything folks are nice and give me tips on good spots to setup and blast some birds. So by all means next time you see me come say hi or show/tell me what I'm doing wrong. I'm no expert by any means and I like talking to folks in person, not getting chewed out on a forum

Wow, that's quite the high horse you ride. How dare someone hunt differently then you. How dare someone else shoot at ducks when they have the opportunity, guess they should have asked you for the all clear to shoot! Don't those darn fisherman fishing a public lake that is open to fishing everyday of the year know to stay home because you decided to go duck hunting! Sounds to me like you need to hunt somewhere else, maybe 1)at a private lake 2) at a lake that is not open to fishing or 3) a private field that you can have all to yourself so no one else spoils your chance at showing off your almighty waterfowl hunting skills. Then again, maybe it would be better if you be the guy that stays home and not interfere with other people enjoying the outdoors, I'm sure they would appreciate you not parking in their spot at the boat launch parking lot.

Nice mixed limit, but not seeing the Goldeneye you say you got.  Left to right I see a Blue Bill, 2 Hooded Mergansers, Wood duck, a ring neck? And 2 Bufflehead Hens.  Keep whacking them.

Thanks guys!

Greenhead is correct, from left to right it's a blue bill, 2 lawn dart hens, woody drake, shoveler, hen goldeneye and a Buffy hen.

I'm not saying somebody has to hunt the same way i do. But it does sound like i do have better hunters etiquette then most guys. Usually when I hear somebody calling and working birds I don't shoot until those birds have moved on or they have taken their shots, and if i see decoys i try to stay as far away as possible not paddle by right in front of the decoys. And for the fisher I'm more worry about their safety a good day of hunting would turn really bad if or when a fishermen gets shot. If you guys put up with the BS I've have to put up some days on a consistent basis you would feel the same way. And it's not just a kapowasin lake it's a lot of lakes now a days

Haha! I hadn't thought of it that way. Sorry a wood duck.  I want to shoot a wood duck , and mount it in my house. Is that better?:)

Quacks-

I get it. Paddling around and water swatting the local hen buffies isn't hunting, it's 'shooting.' but the only thing that's going to change is YOU. You have to put it in to perspective, you're on a lake with an easy as chips boat launch. You have to do as others have said, either find some private land or find somewhere that requires more work to get to than many others are willing to make.
