Half a limit

Had a great day out in Yakima after taking five weeks off due to a cut pad that wouldn't heal. I know a lot of guys on here wouldn't brag about getting half a limit... but for me that's pretty good. I had one cripple get lost in a drainage ditch, so I guess I shot six. I still can't believe the size of some of the coveys I saw today. I was literally tripping over quail out there, had one fly out from under my boot.

Nice work, good to hear the Yaki birds are doing well...as to your comment on "only" half a limit, don't fret, not all of us take limits everytime...or even close to that

Any upland hunt is something to brag about. I enjoy seeing any upland hunt storey. I have been out and only harvested one quail and I was still happy.

  So true! There have been many days where a bird or two made the day. I have yet to shoot a limit of quail....... not sure I could carry enough shells

You shot better than I did this weekend!  haha.   

Were u hunting somewhere that requires steel shot?  If so, I know that was part of the reason for me not bagging more birds... I winged one that flew off that we couldn't find and took feathers out of 2 more but they kept flying too.  Weird.  I thought steel wouldn't make that big of a difference for quail but maybe it does?  I was using #7 steel for some of my shells.  Those two that I saw feathers fly on were a ways off and I was using my semi 20 gauge so maybe that had something to do with it too... either way, the important thing is getting out.  Opie and I were happy with two birds in the vest.

It was great to be in Yakima Valley this weekend.  Someday I hope to fish the river there... so pretty.  Lots of ducks out there too!

I may have shot more, but not necessarily better haha. I missed a good number of birds. I was using #6 lead shot in my 28ga O/U. It's a fast swinging gun, I do better with it on quail than my 12ga. I do fine with steel shot at close range, but it loses velocity pretty quick. I'd probably step up a size or two if you're taking longer shots.
