I am still super excited about being able to harvest my second deer in 3 seasons and my biggest yet.
Opening weekend comes and I find myself at deer camp with a great group of family and friends. We get up at odark thirty and start going over plans of where everyone will be hunting, I was going up a big drainage that my dad and I hunted previous years.my dad would be going to the top looking over a small bowl and I would be in the middle on the same side as he was gassing the opposite side of the drainage. As light breaks over the edge of the horizon I see a couple deer walking the hillside across from me feeding along. 6 does and a couple small 2pt. As the day goes on not much more but a couple does. I call my dad to see what he wants to do and he said he has 3 good deer bedded down at 250 yards but across the fence on property we can't hunt but he is waiting for them to make a move. An hour goes by and the deer got spooked and moved farther onto the private land. We head back to the house and get settled lunch and talk to some other hunters and almost everyone has seen some big deer just not able to get a shot. That evening I found myself gassing a big flat down lower and I only ended up seeing one doe. The next day we decided to hunt the bigger drainage to the west of where we were opening morning. We had 2guys take the quad to the end opposite side and 3 of us on the other. As we set up it started to rain and the wind picked up than the fog rolled in by 10 30 it was miserable and we hadn't seen anything so we headed out. I had to leave Sunday after the morning hunt to go back to work but all I could think about was getting back over to finish the job.
On Tuesday I get a text free I'm my dad , buck down, he shot a small 3 pt. He said there were still lots of bucks running around and I should come back the second weekend to fill my tag. All week all I could think about was hunting, Friday could not come fast enough. So after getting the ok from the wife I was headed back to see what I could do.
I get back to our friends house that we stay at Friday night, everyone else had to leave Wednesday so there was not much pressure for a couple days. It was just me and my grandpa that were going to hunt sat, we decided to hunt the same draw that we hunted opening morning but I was going to head up where my dad was. As morning came we made our way up the steep hill and I went straight up and grandpa was going to sit on a small draw to the east. We separate and I make my way up the hill side hilling it was just getting light and I see a big Dees skylined at the top of the Hill about 400 yards away.

As soon as I spotted him I sat down and started to glass up the hill and start seeing a good amount of deer. After a couple minutes later the big guy walked off onto the private land so I backed out and went up higher on the hill to try and get a better view of the bowl up top. I get to a rock outcrop on top of the hill where I can see into the small bowl and it is filled with deer. The only problem is they are 75 yards over the property line. As I glassed I spotted the deer my dad had seen opening day in the exact same spot across the fence.

So I sat tight for an hour and he is still standing there out in the open . I look across the draw and there are some other hunters walking the edge of the bowl glassing down from the winter weather in the private land. It was a guy and his wife looking in the bowl walking the edge up above. I stayed put thinking they would seek the deer to me. After a while all the deer get spooked and walk down the hill across the fence and into the thick bottom below me, every deer except the buck he didn't budge. The other hunters moved on without seeing the buck somehow, so I waited for what seemed like forever an just when I thought he wasn't going to move he started heading down hill. My heart skipped a beat as he neared the fence, this is going to happen I thought as he made his way toward the fence. When he got there he stopped and looked a while before jumping ovet. This is it my heart started racing as he jumped the fence and worked directly below me on the opposite side of the drainage. I tries to get steady taking deep breaths.
