cabelas euro hd 10x42 feedback
« on: December 28, 2015, 04:38:28 PM »
Hi all, I am in the market for some new binos and noticed these are on sale right now.I have looked through my buddies non hd version and really liked them.
Do these go on sale often (as I really dont need them right now) and can you tell the difference between the hd and non hd versions?

A friend of mine just picked up a pair a few weeks ago and loves them.  He wanted me to try them for a day and I was surprised how much I liked them.  In fact, I liked them much better than my Nikons.

I have had a pair for 2 years now and they are great.  no comparison to the Nikons I had before.  definitely the best option I found without laying out $2K for binos

I've had mine for 4 years now and I really like them. Heavy but I got used to that in a hurry because they're great binos.

Many of the better birding sites will have a discussion on HD vs ED vs Non HD glass.  Much better than you can get any where else.  I'll try to locate a good discussion tomorrow and will post a link.  The difference is slight and is mostly affecting Chromatic Aberration (CA) that you see the benefits of the difference in glass composition.  It is in coatings that the real gains are found.

There is a lot of outright poppycock in the discussions on the bird forums too.  I will see if I can find a really good discussion that is free of some blowhard know it all who only confuses the topic.

Oh that Cabela's Euro stuff is good.  I don't own any of them, but have taken a look at it and it is very, very good.

I had the non HD ones for awhile and they are really good glass but I just couldn't handle the weight anymore and went back to Zeiss.

Over a 1000 yards:  I would consider Cabela's Instinct™ Euro HD™ 12x50 Binoculars on sale for $979.  The 12 power really sharpens up the image over 10 power.

Up to 1000 yards:  If weight is an issue the Vortex Viper 10 x 42 is nice and light.   $599

Don't know for sure but I have heard the Cabela's Euro's are Swaro SLC's  :dunno: I haven't looked through the Euro's but I have used SLC's in the past in both 10 and 15 power and currently have Swaro El's and Leica Hd-r rangefinder's and I wouldn't use anything else  :twocents: Also my El's are not HD but I don't see a considerable difference to justify the additional cost.

IMO I'd buy a used pair of Swaro's like Lewy's and call it good

They are made by Meopta.  I could go either way.  The Swaro SLC was the Gold Standard for many years and are not a bad way to go.
