Trap building supplies?
« on: December 03, 2015, 08:39:12 AM »
Curious to know what type of material most people use to build their traps and where you get your supplies. I'm planning on taking the trappers ed class this weekend and need to start building traps. I had a chance to look at some traps at the rendezvous last February and saw some designs I really liked. I was thinking about making something with a power door, and collapsible. I have at least 2 bobcats located and possibly a couple more.

I've heard also that beaver makes the best bait for bobcats. I know of one beaver pond close by but every time I've been in there it doesn't look like there is much activity there. Plus it's almost a mile behind a locked gate.  Does anyone know where I might be able to get some beaver for bait, or have recommendations for something to use other then beaver.

I will also be needing to get a fleshing knife and beam and some stretchers. Anyone have any recommendations on which ones to get?

Basically I'm a complete green horn here and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Can't tell you how many hours I've spent reading everyone's posts. I feel I've learned a lot just from your posts.
It's not the size of the trophy that make's it a trophy.

You may just be one person in this world. But you may be the world to just one person.

I'll be doing a short fur handling demonstration at the end of the class. I can talk about building traps a little. After the main part of the class I will answer questions to the best of my ability.
