Haters gotta hate.  >:( The Jicarilla is not a high fence hunt, it's an Indian Reservation and a big one at that. By bashing this guy for using a guide, you are bashing everyone who uses a guide. Every non resident who hunts in Canada is required to hire a guide. Are they all bad hunters because they use a guide? I think not. I don't know this guy so I can't ( I wouldn't anyway) judge him. If I were a rich man that is exactly what I would be doing every year, one dream hunt after another. If I wasn't hunting then I would be spending my money on fishing trips.

That is a great buck. I would love to shoot one like it. Sure there are bigger bucks out there, but this thread is about this deer. If you want to show off bigger deer then start your own thread.

Thanks to the OP for sharing.
I have to agree with you.  I get what he is saying though, I don't get excited as much, but still love to look at nice animals.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Awesome Buck! Congrats to him!

I never would have guessed that deer to only have 6-6/8" in deductions. It looks like he has 10-12" of non typical points alone before factoring in symmetry deductions.

Awesome buck and congrats. There seems to be some jealousy in a previous post. Its his choice how he wants to spend HIS money and how he chooses to hunt legally. Enough with the negative attack better to just make no comment.

I can understand how my previous post can come across as being jealous. I'm not upset or jealous of the fact that this guy kills big deer every year I'm truly not. I just don't really understand why so many people think it's such a big deal. I'm sorry but it simply is not a hunting accomplishment in my book. Substitute anyone who can follow a guide around and shoot straight.

I have no problems with guides or people who take guides. Nothing against the hunter or how he chooses to spend his money. It just simply is not a big accomplishment in my book when you kill a big critter in an area where very very few people are allowed to hunt. Especially when you do it with your hand held.

Dan is a good dude and does a lot for the sport of hunting...   I promise you he puts in more money into the sport and conservation then all of us combined on this site... Were lucky to have a dude like this... :twocents:

I'm sure he is and I agree with your statement. Lots pf good things come from his funds. Probably should have kept my opinion to myself on this one. It's cool he killed a giant buck and hopefully he accomplished one of his goals.

The post was about appreciating a truly tremendous buck - not about hunting style.

Some of these guys wear their jealousy so close to the surface it's scary.

Too bad.

Congrats to Dan A on a tremendous buck....   even though some of you would be more proud of shooting a rat over bait........   riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

I've shot a few animals 10 feet from my truck, unguided. I've busted my ars for 10 days with a guide and come home with just memories.

Congratulations to Mr. Agnew.

I'm just glad I got to see a pic.  When it comes to hunting there are many ways to skin that cat.  Some own great property, some use wealth, some use youth and physical advantages, some are just ridiculously lucky when it comes to tags, some are tremendously skilled, some have special ceded rights, and some have varying combinations of all of the above.  I'm just happy people are out perpetuating the sport that I love and hope that it will continue for generations to come.  I never would think to begrudge anyone success, as long as they hunt in an honest, ethical manner and show  due respect to the game.  I do not respect any Hunter more or less based on the size of their kill.  I respect them based upon their ethics and their dedication and devotion to the sport.  I'm personally ecstatic mr Agnew chooses to spend his dollars in ways that benefit the sport versus dumping a boatload of money into passing gun control or banning some aspect of hunting, etc.  I have a certain hard-core style that I personally hunt, and I hunt that way because I enjoy it and because it's how I get the most fulfillment out of the sport; but I have zero problem with people doing things A different way and I hope they find great fulfillment in whatever manner they choose to hunt.  I'm far more jealous of the amount of time Mr. Agnew gets to spend hunting than I am of his trophys and I hope that someday I will find myself in that position.  I can't think of anything I'd rather do than spend three months hunting; regardless of the outcome.  The trophy lies in the hunt itself; the animal is just a bonus.

Who cares about the drams man. That's a beast of a buck and we all would slap our mothers to get a chance to send some lead towards that buck.

I think maybe some of those preaching "we should all just get along" and pointing fingers at the "elitists" need to down a large spoonful of their own medicine and try just getting along.

I get what AK is saying. And don't think he was trying to disrespect the hunter and certainly not the buck.

When viewed as a sport, hunting is special because it has no set "standards". In all other sports the "best" all compete on the same field. And earn respect among peers for play on that field. NFL fields are all the same, Goals are the same, even a deflated ball is cause for a lynching :chuckle: Basketball hoops are all set to the same height. Would anyone respect Lebron if he was dunking on a 8 foot basket? Yet hunting has none of these set in stone rules. Sure we have regulations but even these can certainly be bypassed with money. So it is natural that hunters will come up with their own yardstick for measuring success. From my limited interactions, I think for many hunters the " Pro field" is OTC tags or possibly general draw tags, on open to public land, and by and large unguided. That is the playing field that is the hardest to win at consistently. Not only for the hunter but also the hunted. Does that mean a guy wont ever dump a rut crazed 200 inch buck in the Methow in October from the pickup? Or that the guy who hunts a governor rut tag wont get a chance at 150 class buck on private ground with Mossback? Of course not, but which is more plausible? I do think some of these hunters hunt hard and care about a quality hunt. And some guys that buy a OTC tag and a 30 pack don't. Its all relative, but In the end when comparing apples to apples the guys with the 30 pack was still pitting himself against all the other competition against animals that knew best how to survive it. You cannot say that about this hunt.

I am happy for the hunter and the conservation dollars he puts toward the state/animals. I do question whether that money will ever impact me in any way or if these hunters attitude toward stewardship and animal and land access and availability. Are even close to mine. But in the end it is their money and the system is working for them, Kudos.

Most importantly can we please get off the " they must be elitist" or " here comes the jealousy crew" bandwagon. I think I will go try to kill a frustration Doe this weekend just to get my head straight :chuckle:

I'd be willing to wager that the likes of Mr Agnew, Mr. Klumper, Mr. Reichert couldn't care less what us folks or anyone else think about the way they hunt and the means they use to kill their trophies. Just a hunch. If it's fun in their book, that's why they do it.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

:chuckle:...Well yes and no  I would hope we are all similar in that mindset. I know I  care less what you think or anyone thinks of how I hunt. I was simply pointing this out for comparison purposes. But for folk that don't care, they are awfully picky about getting their pictures and details posted up here. ( Not speaking for Dan directly, as he seems fairly freewheeling with the pics  )

I don't see why people think It's okay to crap on their hunts just because they have money. People would never comment on "normal" people's hunts like they do with Dan and guys like him. It would be be incredibly rude. Everyone would chastise the commenter. Folks would say "no wonder people won't post success photos on here anymore" or "comments like that are ruining this site". But no, Since the hunter is deemed too rich it is okay to crap on his hunt. It doesn't matter how hard he hunted because he has money so therefore he didn't actually hunt.
