It's just the model number tons of information between models, I suggest you look on leupold's website. Mostly lense coating, model specifics and stuff. Eg vx1 = frictions adjustment vx2 = click adjustments vx3 = click adjustments plus super secret lense coating mumbo jumbo...

I use a Vx2 3x9 50mm and it's a super clear scope, great in low light right at shooting hours.

VX-2's are great scopes- as good or better than the old Vari-X III.

Splitshot I would not hesitate to get that scope it's on my list of ones to get too for my rem 700 when I get some $ together. You can also get custom dial for vx2 scopes if you know your ballistics.

I have several VX-2's and VX-3's. Both models are great scopes. I don't think you will be disappointed with your
VX-2 purchase.

Think of the VX-2 as the F-150 of scopes. Great reputation, tough, good in all weather and any situations, will still be around when others have failed, and (unlike the truck) has a lifetime warranty.

VX is short for Vari X. It means it is a variable power scope.
The number after signifies the family or series. It definitely signifies that certain coatings and internal parts are of a different grade from one series to another. It may, I am not sure, also signify different grades of glass.
Leupold catalogs used to be straight forward and very helpful, the last ones I saw were little more than articles on the celebrities they have on their endorsement staff.

I've owned a Mark 4 and I currently have a VX3 CDS 30mm. I honestly can't see much of a difference in clarity for the $600 price difference.

Once you get into the "quality" realm there is very little optical difference that you can see under average conditions. Some of the newer coatings are just amazing at repelling moisture and oils from fingers.

decided on a vx-3, 4.5x14x50. wanted to stay away from vortex as they are not a proven excellent scope in my mind. mike w
