Pistol grip shotgun

Is it legal to hunt ducks with a pistol grip on a shotgun. I was out hunting on Sunday and saw a guy with on and I thought it was illegal but couldn't find any info.

It is legal.

Why would it not be legal??
They are one of the aspects that certain "assault weapon" definitions contain.

Because it is scary-looking and therefore could not possibly have any use as a sporting/hunting arm.

It is instead, at the minimum an assault weapon or could even be classified as a WMD...Weapon of Mass DUCKstruction......  :IBCOOL:

The assault weapon definition is not germane to hunting.  The only restrictions are:

No persons shall take migratory game birds:

a) With a trap, snare, net, rifle, pistol, swivel gun,
shotgun larger than 10 gauge, punt gun,
battery gun, machine gun, fish hook, poison,
drug, explosive, or stupefying substance.

b) With a shotgun of any description capable
of holding more than three shells,
unless it is
plugged with a one-piece filler, incapable of
removal without disassembling the gun, so its
total capacity does not exceed three shells.

Under the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 the definition of "semiautomatic assault weapon" included specific semi-automatic firearm models by name, and other semi-automatic firearms that possessed two or more from a set certain features. Semi-automatic shotguns with two or more of the following were considered “assault weapons”:
•   Folding or telescoping stock
•   Pistol grip
•   Detachable magazine.


This has no bearing on what is legal to use for hunting in Washington.

Benelli has stocks with pistol grips attached as well.  I have one on my turkey gun.

Useless?  Far from it!  This would be the perfect tool for gaining entry to locked blinds on public lands!  Just look at that fearsome breaching choke...  :drool:

"Pistol grip only" firearms are not classified as shotguns by the ATF. They must have a stock.
