Under the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 the definition of "semiautomatic assault weapon" included specific semi-automatic firearm models by name, and other semi-automatic firearms that possessed two or more from a set certain features. Semi-automatic shotguns with two or more of the following were considered “assault weapons”:
•   Folding or telescoping stock
•   Pistol grip
•   Detachable magazine.


This has no bearing on what is legal to use for hunting in Washington.

That ban ended in 2004.

Pistol grip only?  Legal, but basically useless.

Useless?  Far from it!  This would be the perfect tool for gaining entry to locked blinds on public lands!  Just look at that fearsome breaching choke...

"Pistol grip only" firearms are not classified as shotguns by the ATF. They must have a stock.

Hmm, he did say pistol grip on a shotgun.
