Need a name for my recurve...
« on: January 22, 2009, 09:12:37 PM »
Thought I would share some pics of my take down recurve.  A couple of friends at work and myself each built one of these.  One of the guys has built a few bows and came up with the design.  The idea was a hybrid take down longbow/recurve.  It turned out more recurve than longbow.

I used zebra wood for the riser with bamboo and carbon in between brown glass.  I used elk antler for the tips of my limbs.  It pulls 56lbs at 28".  The draw turned up really smooth with no stack up.

I'm about to put the last coat of oil on it and need to write the draw weight and length on it.  I also want to come up with some cool name like you see on a lot of traditional bows but haven't been able to come up with anything yet.

As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Thank you, yes I plan on doing some hunting with it.  If I'm lucky enough to draw a elk rut tag I think the chances of getting a bull in close enough are pretty good.

If you ever trade her in for another bow, you could then call her "old fling."   :chuckle:

Those are some good names!  I'm really kicking around a couple of them.

This is actually the first and only bow I have built so far besides a couple of little bows that I made out of hickory for my girls.  My friend who designed this bow has another design that he came up for a long bow that is similar to the Martin Savanah with a bit more reflex in the limbs.  He is putting together a test bow right now to check draw weight.  After that I am going to build myself a longbow using his form.
