The best part of that whole thread is when somebody rewrote his hunt description; essentially telling the real story but using his phrasing.  I literally almost wet my pants I was laughing so hard.
:yeah:
I read all 10 pages, very funny... I like the "field" pics with the taxidermy head.

Cool read. I'm glad you posted that you didn't want to screw up the ending cuz I might not have read it all the way through. Thanks, I enjoyed that!

I wish that they had saved all of his prior posts for posterity.  I suspect they did it out of respect for people who were dropping from laughter at his prior attacks.  On especially Ted Nugent but others as well. It looks like they have all been deleted though.

FWIW, a variation on this theme scheme was pulled on Anderson Island a few years back, but it went haywire when a neighbor who hunts with their combination week long kegger on the beach and deer hunt, with three or four thrown in that hunt for a trophy quality mature BT buck every year, smelled a rat.

The neighbor had seen the deer the antlers purportedly came from hanging in the guy's garage and said it was "the size of a police dog."

He is kinda' the hunting camp mascot and didn't get a deer in the General and went back out alone during the late season.

That knuckle head only wanted to fit in a little better within his circle of friends and I doubt it would have ever went any further.  IIRC the antlers were like a 120- 125, half bleached out, spindly mule deer set and came from an estate sale in Steilacoom.

I know guys that this one "hunts" with, their group is about fifteen strong, and they go out to the island together and most of them hunt for the first legal deer that comes along and he still hunts with them today.  Most all the adults have gotten a kinda' nice BT buck over the years and this guy just wanted to fit in a little better with the group.

From what I know, he shows up every year, pitches in with the pre-hunt preparations like setting up deer stands and the camp, and is there to make sure everybody has a good time.

My impression is he is kinda' slow on the uptake on top of not making an honest effort when in the field though, and wanted to have a nice buck story to share around the camp fire in the evenings.

I'll be honest with you, I don't think this guy's rep was even dented.  The guys that are serious still love that trip and would not miss it for anything.  They have great access and hunt all over the island and every one still loves the guy that tried to pull a fast one.

I stop in from time to time at their campfire if I am out there and... get a six-pack in him and he will put together a story about that buck that just keeps getting better every time we get him started.   Actually, it is me who gets the ball rolling because I never get tired of listening to what his latest "recovered memory" of the hunt is.

BTW, he still is an underperformer in the field, but they say deer camp would not be the same without him and I ran into one of his friends he hunts with and he did get a nice mature fork horn this season.  He was set up in a blind overlooking a trail leading to an apple tree and did get a dandy buck.

I just can't find it in me to have any ill feelings toward the guy.  In all honesty, that buck is at the taxi and I am glad he got it.  Almost everybody else in that group has a nice BT mount, including the "meat hunters" who also "lucked out" and I honestly am glad that he got lucky by drawing the "right" stand finally smiled on him.

From what I read in the thread:  Cole was on the payroll of more than one company that sells hunting accessories.  I used to run the largest hunting/shooting retail counter in the south sound area.  Elevating people like this Cole Houston is a menace!! And sporting goods companies do it all the time!

I cannot begin to count the times a new enthusiast came in and had definite ideas about what they needed to improve their game.  I had a heck of a time convincing that what they needed was number one to stop spending money and save to up money to buy the best binocular for their style of hunting that their budget could absorb and then to learn how to live behind that binocular when in the field and to spend time putting lotsa' ammo through what weaponry they already owned and to get off their butt and put miles on their boots every chance they get while looking at every little thing with their binocular, instead if purchasing some cockamamie contraption or product that guarantees....

I love the "field" photo with the mounted deer. You can see the eye is phony.

Where the hell have I been. I don't remember this story. Looks like the original muleymadness post was in 2009. I couldn't find anything of an update on this.

Ha! Mounted heads as field photos! Thats awesome. That reminds me of a TV show I watched a while back. It was Summits High PLaces. I the guys name is Joe Thomas. I wouldn't type this if I wasn't 100% sure. He was hunting a whitetail ( of course) some place back east and he shot one with his bow right before dark. Then, it suddenly, as they usually do, go right to it being pitch black out, and he's sitting there in the grass with an obvious taxidermy head. Not even the same deer as you saw him shoot a couple minutes before. These types of guys are complete DB's!
