I'd guess more hunters, less public land, and fewer deer.

Desert unit is well known as a draw tag as well as others like Entiat. People aren't as afraid to show pictures and share info on draw units because it's so hard to draw and you aren't hunting there every year.

Smart people don't brag about there general unit hunting areas unless they want everyone and their brother showing up next year. I'm definitely not sharing pictures of bucks in general units.

I'd wager that's the best explanation.

One word-Habitat. While some of the other units around the desert have some deer habitat most of it is open, easily accessed and the deer that do inhabit them are pressured more. The desert unit is one big deer habitat with a lot of thick cattail and Russian olive cover, less pressure due to controlled hunting and the core of the deer habitat has almost no road access and it is tough hiking in those sand dunes on foot

Spot on assessment.

On this forum at most times there are a large number of folks gleaning information from here either as a member or a guest. If there were 300 folks looking at the info given and they only told one other person and they also told just one person how long before you are knee deep in friends!!!

There isn't near the population of deer in that unit once you get away from the Potholes and nearby alfalfa fields and the Game Dept. likes it that way (too many landowner complaints).  Also, a large portion of public land is closed during rifle season.
There are deer, some big ones, and it is a fun muzzleloader hunt if you can handle ravenous mosquitoes.

There are absolutely no deer in the neighboring units. They have all moved to the desert unit for safety.
