Muzzleloader Purchase
« on: December 12, 2015, 05:23:39 PM »
Other than cabelas, where would be a good place to get set up for a muzzleloader? I've been thinking about it for sometime now, and after hunting in heavy brush with the ol stick and string, I'm thinking about "pulling the trigger" on one. Thanks.

I would order from www.muzzle-loaders.com.

They are a sponsor here, and based out of Oregon, so they are up to speed on the requirements for a legal muzzleloader in Washington.

Or you could try Sunbirds in Chehalis. I know they usually have Knight Bighorns in stock.

I looked around quite a bit before buying my Knight at the Puyallup sportsmans warehouse. Muzzle-loaders.com seems like a good place too. They just didn't happen to have what I was after at the time. Their customer service is very good and they answered my questions promptly. I got what I feel was a very competitive price on my Disc Extreme at the Puyallup store

If you can get to Orting Big J's has fair pricing and a good selection.

The vortrek caught my eye today. Does anyone have it or have shot it before?

I have Vortek strikerfire northwest magnum. It's been great so far haven't had any misfires and it's really lightweight feels great. Killed a 2 point blacktail a week after I bought it.  They have a new model for this year that has the accelarator breech plug but with a little cutout in it to make it northwest legal. Mine is the old style northwest that uses the thunder dome breech plug. I've heard of some negative reviews of the old Vortek but everything about the strikerfire I've heard has been positive. I didn't know anything when I bought the gun really about brand names or anything I just thought that a break action was easier to clean and care for and it seemed like a nice simple system that felt awesome in my hands and against the shoulder. However I've heard lots of good things about Knight and the Knight mountaineer is a sweeeet looking gun. I will probably buy one someday.
