Mule Deer / Blacktail cross.
:yeah:
Basically most of the deer in Klickitat and western Yakima counties are benchlegs.

it's very rare to find a "purebred" or even mostly purebred muley west of Yakima anymore.  Check out the tail...dead give away, so to speak.

In the Washington state record books, they are called Cascade Blacktails. Boone and Crocket does not recognize them and cannot be entered in their book. It's too bad too, there are some whopper benchlegs out there.

I shot a 3x3 Blacktail/Mulie cross this year and I have heard of them in the past also called "Pacific Deer". This was my first cross Buck as I usually hunt in pretty much Blacktail areas.........Les

I don't think a benchleg will ever score that high in the muley record books, but I think they are the coolest looking deer there are.

i saw one this year that most definitely would without a problem. He was a monster. The huge ones are few and far between but they do exist.

How big do you think he was?

i am being very conservative here but an easy 190+. I have never seen a buck this big before. I almost had a heart attack. He stood up 10 yards from me. Oct. 31 2008. that day will haunt me the rest of my life. His forks were at least a foot long or better and he was a heavy, wide, black antlered 28 inches wide and very tall.
