Help Score this Washington Buck I'm chasing!
« on: December 14, 2015, 07:54:11 PM »
Been chasing this buck for the last two years. He has been pretty elusive but have had a few close encounter, I have an idea of what it would score but not positive. Let hear your input and hopefully next year I will be able to put a tape on it unless it was killed and I never knew!

Also if any guesses on outside spread?

Mid 150s  not as wide as you think and the difference between the sides/forks would be more deduction than you think...  but a dandy buck for sure.  looks to be old and maybe on decline so i would not let anoter year go by...

He's dead..

You beat me to it :chuckle:

Lower 170's is my guess. If the backs were as big as the fronts he'd go over 180 I think.

The way his rack flares out, I'd guess 28ish or more outside spread!

Dandy!

That's rude, and ridicules post pics or it didn't happen. Oh and it's not my deer so can't post pics doesn't work since we already have seen the deer.

170-180  great buck.

Kinda looks like one I saw for a fleeting moment this year.  :chuckle:

167" gross and 27" wide outside. Looks better at a glance, but he leans out in back.

That deer has to go atleast 170's....My guess is 26-28" ouside spred.  I am not a scorer by any means, but I know my 2012 buck unofficially scored 156 and change and that is bigger than mine.   :twocents:  My buck was 27 7/8 outside spread.

Once7 they get over the 150-160 mark they get tough to tell1"-2" added to each point is tough to tell at that point and really adds on the inches when you factor in the mass as well.

With all that being said I am going to say 26 1/2"-27" wide and somewhere in the 168"-172" gross range.

Great deer, I hope you get to put a tape to him next year.

Awesome buck, cool that you've seen him multiple years and got so many great pics!

Jrebel's buck is a good comparison for scoring purposes.  Obviously the front forks are bigger on this buck, but the fronts are more narrow on this buck than Jrebel's, which costs this buck in three measurements - both main beams and inside spread.  Unfortunately he gets no credit for the great width in the back, which looks like 27-28" or so to me with the flare. Jrebel's buck is wider in front than back, which helps his score.  Jrebel's also has an extra 5" of eyeguards.

So here's what I get.  Awesome buck, just not a great scorer.

MB:  22/22
G1:  0/0
G2:  14/14
G3:  6/7
G4:  10/10
Mass:  32
kicker: 2
Spread:  20

105 + 32 + 20 + 2 = 159

Generally MtMuley and I are closer, but I'm going lower.  Under 170.  Short mains, and narrow inside spread.  Flare doesn't mean anything score wise.   Awesome g4s,,but backs are small.   Pretty deer to put an arrow through.  Thanks for sharing the pics

I see an inch or two more than couse' numbers everywhere except inside spread, 20" seems about right. I put him high 170's low 180's with an outside spread in the ballpark of 30", his left side flares way out! Great deer great pics!

I've got 78 on the passenger side, 74 on the driver side. 18" spread credit for a total of 170.  Only spread that matters when scoring is the inside spread CREDIT.  Your spread credit cannot exceed the longest main beam.  The inside spread is measured at the widest point between both main beams.   Just an fyi.  Fantastic buck and thanks for sharing!  Always fun to play the guessing game.  Especially when you have really good photos like this

Pic 3 ears pulled back and he looks wide.  Way wider than he really is.
Pic 4 ears out and from behind.  99% of the time a deer will look super wide from the back but this buck looks narrower from the back.
My guess is 24 - 25 wide.
Score 165ish.

The 4th pic makes his rack appear to still be inside his ears. 165ish? Looks like a certain wall hanger by the way I judge. My guess on age would be 3.5 years...but the OP has been watching him for a few years, so, maybe 4.5yo?

Low 160's.  I'm within an inch or two of Wacous deer estimate.

I'll sell the location of this buck to the highest bidder, I've got the Dr's GPS coordinates of his camera! I've heard the Dr has a bad case of the shakes and needs help putting this guy down...hahaha

I would say 175-178. I think the bucks body makes the rack look a little smaller. The buck looks to be 250-260 on the hoof at least. I would still say the rack is 27-28" wide.

Age I really struggle with.  He has a lot of grey in the face and between his antlers so I would say older and if in front of me he wouldn't get a day older.  :chuckle:

Low 160's.  I'm within an inch or two of Wacous deer estimate.

I'll sell the location of this buck to the highest bidder, I've got the Dr's GPS coordinates of his camera! I've heard the Dr has a bad case of the shakes and needs help putting this guy down...hahaha

Haha no one wants buy a 160, only if was a 180!

next year he should be close to that
