Was thinking of getting a pass their next year. Hope it stays open for hunting and they are good "stewards of the land".

Rumors are that Campbell will either significantly increase the price of the access pass or close it to all entry....

It was basically free after you took out a couple cords of wood.  Nowhere to go but up.

So, in either case the price for all the other farms can be expected to go up or they'll sell out faster than leftover multiseason elk permits.

Someone very close to the current/previous owner/company

What would be their incentive to do this?  It seems like they allow walk-in access to many of their other properties.

Oh I see.  Were you already able to purchase a permit for 2016?

Hancock permits are good through March.  Will see what the new owners do for 2016.  Kapowsin is an extra 45 minutes from home, but I'll probably give that a try if shut out of Snoqualmie.  No way I'm paying someone so I can leave my truck unattended on the North Fork road.

Have you heard anything about the Kapowsin property being sold to them?

Hampton purchased approximately 17,500 acres, some of which in Kapowsin, some of which in Eatonville.  ORM just recently purchased another 15,000 within Kapowsin.  Rumor has it the various remaining ownerships for which Hancock manages are going to be selling out in succession.

From what I have researched of Campbell Global they do recreation land leases to hunting clubs.  Maybe they will do something different.  Hancock Recreation is managing the White River recreation passes for the Mukelshoots.  I might look at the White River pass if they offer it in 2016.

Yeah my contact just told me no access :yike:

Except tribal.

Why would tribal get access to a private land?  It isn't open and unclaimed.

I'm just saying that because that seems to be the trend. Whether the tribe pays the timber company for hunting rights or outright buys the land. I see it happening more and more. Eventually the tribes will control the hunting rights on all private timberland in western Washington.

Lots of people, Muckleshoot season opens before us, roads everywhere so there is no way to get away from the roads, etc.  Also Hancock will arbitrarily shut down the whole forest for permit holders at any time.  Three years ago they shut it down for fire hazard on muzzle loader opener.  So it was open for all of archery, closed opener for ML, and re opened for MF.  No warning.  For me that was a couple hundred bucks, planned time off work, and a hunting season that essentially went to waste.  Haven't bought it since.

It's a good value for the firewood if you have a place to let the wood season though.  5 cords for $250 isn't bad if you have the capacity for hauling.

I look at it for the wood and the hunting is a bonus.  I archery hunt and I actually have access to the area for work too.  So I know part of the area.  Thanks for the info

What is interesting is Campbell used to own Kapowsin, then sold it to Hancock. It was still open to hunting when they owned it.

On the plus side, maybe there's now an interest or possibility in getting that block established as a new spring bear damage hunt area? Isn't the Monroe spring bear hunt partially on Campbell timberlands?
