North Sound Unit 407
« on: December 18, 2015, 06:48:21 PM »
Hello Folks,
Unit 407, North Sound, is still open for late archery.  I've not yet hunted in this unit (I live in this unit) and am thinking of heading to the state land to the west and south of Lake Roesiger.  I'm willing to put in time and will either bike or walk in.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice regarding where I should focus:  clearcuts (although there aren't many), logging roads, or in the timber?  Does this area hold many deer?  I do have options to hunt for other game in other places, but thought I'd give this a shot unless it's really not worthwhile.

Thanks!

I've been in a few units further south several times in the past few weeks and the deer have been sticking to heavy cover. Not much has been using clearcuts since November and if they were near a cut is was right along the edge to the timber line. Been in and out of snow not seeing much sign entering the cuts either. Been seeing some massive rubs but again in older reprod and timber. But weather has also been really windy and rainy . Even all the grouse I've seen have been using tall timber not the general reprod skidders I usually see them earlier in the season
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.

Thanks for the info!  I have a feeling I'll have to be sneaking through thick stuff to get close enough with a bow.  I don't think the area I'm looking to hunt has gotten any snow yet, so you may have been at higher elevation.  Good thing to know about the grouse as well, that was my second option!

Hunted  area south west of lake. Go all the way up to upper cut. Sit and wait. Older cuts. Not many deer, but never know what may come out. Bear and cats in their also. Good luck
