Harbor freight welder?
« on: December 19, 2015, 07:55:14 PM »
I'm starting to gather supplies for trap building. Does anyone use the flux core mug from harbor freight. I will be needing to weld 1/4" rod.

I have one, should be fine for that.  It is supposed to be 1/4 inch maximum thickness material.

I have a harbor freight welder. The little gas/gasless wire feed. I use the flux core wire and it welds the 1/4" rod just fine. I like to turn it down to around mid level and slow feed. Works good for me

i bought the cheap little 110v flux core welder about 10 years ago, it's been a lifesaver more than a few times.  the thing to remember is to keep the drive rollers clean for consistent feeding, otherwise they tend to slip.

would love to have a nice miller or lincoln, but as often as i use mine it's been just fine.  you won't pretty welds like a mig because of the splatter, but it works OK.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Make sure to take and share pics of your progress. There are always questions regarding trap making.
