This is purely based on the fact that the Dems took a butt whipping in the last election here and the Gov, a former Clinton hack, is trying to rule Virginia in the same way Obama is using Executive Action.  Can't get what you want through the legislature then go around the people and legislate however you want.

So, just open carry then. If they don't want you to conceal your handgun what other choice do you have?

There was absolutely no issue or crimes by out of state permit holders coming to Virginia and committing crimes.  This makes Virginia residents less safe since now if they travel to several other states they will not be allowed to take their weapons with them.  This was a solution looking for a problem.  Northern VA is just an extension of DC, of course I think these folks will get angry much quicker and DO something about it more than a lot of states.   :twocents:

Actually, the requirement to have a permit in order to carry a concealed weapon is a "solution looking for a problem."

Criminals are going to carry concealed weapons regardless of any law that prohibits it.

As of July 1, 2010, a concealed handgun permit is not necessary when carrying a handgun while in a personal, private motor vehicle or vessel and such handgun is secured in a container or compartment in the vehicle or vessel.  The term “secured” as used does not require the compartment to be locked. OAG opinion 11-111.

What a bunch of BS.  My daughter is a Virginia resident with a Concealed Pistol Lic and is currently a student at college in Florida.  She is now unable to protect herself unless she gets a non-resident Florida concealed permit.  Pisses me off to no end that one guy can just arbitrarily make up *censored*.  Every single Democrat can......F em every one them.  I think this will backfire as it has poked a stick in a hornets nest over here.

So, because of this, Florida will no longer recognize a Virgina CPL?

Those states hand out permits to people who are barred under the Virginia law, like fugitives, convicted stalkers and drug dealers, which undermines the state's law and puts residents at risk, he said.

Failing to see why this is a bad thing? Those people should not be able to legally carry a gun anywhere

Since it is reciprocated, Virginians with concealed permits that were obtained under higher standards than those other states won't be able to carry when they visit those places.

So maybe we should put pressure on the other states to raise their standards?

That is not the reason, this is purely political.  There hasn't been even a single incident where a Non-resident CPL holder committed a crime in VA.  The VA requirements are no different or harder to get than most states including WA.

*censored*, they are legally able to posses a firearm, VA doesn't have some lofty standard, please tell me you aren't falling for the crap????

There shouldn't even be a prohibition to carry open/concealed for citizens anyways, imo.

Yeah there should be.  If you are a law abiding citizen then you have the permit.  If not and you get busted concealed carrying, go directly to jail and pay $200.  Its a good way to keep firearms out of the hand of people who are up to no good with them.
