Cougar loin for Christmas
« on: December 25, 2015, 01:21:10 PM »
Is anyone else having strange/exotic foods for dinner?  We are having a party (~20 guests) and many of the folks don't hunt and are not often exposed to it.  I like to use it as an opportunity to cook a bunch of wild game and share with them.

Tonight: wild ham, smoked salmon, and cougar loins caught this week in Idaho :)

Merry Christmas!

A few years ago I took a selection of meat sticks to work to share with my fellow workers. They were Elk, Deer, Moose, Beef and Cougar.
I placed the tray in the lunch room and then just watched the feeding frenzy. When it got to the last few pieces I then labeled the cut's. It was amazing how many folks were upset that I didn't tell them. One of the people who was there said for goodness sakes you know he hunt's!!! Why would you be surprised? As I pointed out to all of them it was nothing more than Protein, and if I had told them what it was would you have tried it?

It is a perception in peoples minds about what they eat.

Haha- I was upfront about it, and almost everyone tried it and liked it.  They might have been upset if I had "surprised" them.

One of the folks who was upset was double fisting the samples. I pointed out he hadn't slowed down on the samples.

I had cougar meat a few years ago when my nephew killed a nice cat just before Christmas we divided it up in small packages and shared with all of our hunting buddies and friends, taste and texture similar to pork, I love the exotics when it come to food, the beaver ham stew was a great hit, Thanks
