7mm mag ammo
« on: December 25, 2015, 02:48:17 PM »
I got a savage 110 in 7mm mag. It has maby a box of ammo through it. I was wondering where I should start. I know I need to find out what the gun likes. I don't reload so factory ammo will have to do. I really like the federal fusion that I was shooting in my 270 and I see they have it for the 7 mm  but what grain would be better for deer and bear

I am in the process with a 7mm mag I bought last year. Currently re-loading 168 berger bullets with various loads using 4831 and retumbo powder from 62 grns up to 66 grns. If you want factory ammo only try HSM Gold tipped with 168 berger bullets ... they shot good from mine in fact I took a Buck this past season since I'm not settled on a final load yet. Other factory to try would be federal premium nosler partitions or Nosler accubond's, note though that the accubonds have been hard to find at times and not always readily available. Accubonds come in a 168 and federal come in 165 which I think would be a good place to start and will work on anything you want to hunt be it Deer, Elk or whatever???  :twocents: If those don't work try hornady ammo  :hello:

You should be happy with Berger Bullets they shatter the inside of an animal ... its like the insides just explode! I've shot 3 animals with them and not much in the way of tracking

I have the same rifle/caliber.

Mine is not too finicky, but it really like Hornady Superformance 162 grain GMX.

Thanks for the suggestions I'll try what I can find tomorrow and let you guys know how it does. I mostlikely need more work than the rifle since I haven't shot it yet.
