Onx Maps app questions

I have heard some good things about the Onx maps. Just wondering A) if it's worth having in your opinion? B) Can I still open and use the maps for general reference on my Android phone if I'm not in cell service? C) There are several options on the Onx website. Is there an option you like best? ie do you download a hard copy and use it as reference or do u just use your phone? D) Are there any reasons not to get this? E) If you bought the app. do you bother with the updates? Answers to any or all these questions is appreciated. Am I missing/forgetting anything I should ask?

Maybe I would just be better off getting a new Garmin and loading it on that?

1-It definitely works better on an actual GPS.

2- I think it's worth having on your phone. You do have to download maps for where you want to use them before you leave cell service. It uses lots of battery and lots of storage on your phone but it does work pretty well.

If you want public/private land info and landowner info, it's good. If you just want something along the lines of a standard GPS, I think there are other options.

Ive got the Onx map chip in my Garmin GPS and its been very useful. I used it a lot in a new deer this year. The area I was hunting was a smaller chunk of land that is surrounded by private land with no fence lines so I used it a lot to make sure I didnt cross onto private land. My buddy has the app downloaded onto his phone and it didnt work as well. But if you take screenshots of your area, that works too.

Its also great for getting landowner info

I agree. A dedicated GPS is a better solution, in my opinion. I have both but would never subject a $600 phone to the abuse I give a GPS getting banged around in packs, mud, and who knows what else.

I have it on both and rarely use the Garmin.  The iPhone is so much faster for scrolling and zooming as well as easier to download exactly what you want quickly.  Many times, I move my hunt area and just need to find a bar or two of cell service to load a whole other set of maps.

I usually buy 2-3 states every year.  Typically, I cringe at the cost and then it ends up being the best spent money.  This year, my daughter lined up on the corner of one property and bagged a great buck on the corner of another one.  We absolutely wouldn't have pushed the shot without knowing exactly where we were.

Thank you for all the replies. Base on the responses. I think I'll end up putting them on both. I'm going to try the app on my phone first because I need a new Garmin. My old one is p years old and keeps freezing up.
