Best AR going ?

Can't speak to other makes/models, but I run a DPMS Compact Hunter (.308) and it is a tack driver.

But does it shoot bug holes?

I would prefer this: http://www.marlinfirearms.com/firearms/bigbore/1895g.asp if I were going big bore on elk.  Far more comfortable to carry in the field and 2,131 fps w/Hornaday 350 RN & IMR 4198

That's a nice looking rifle. My ideal lever action would be a Winchester 94 in .375 Winchester. Plenty for Elk, and the lines are much more classic over the Marlin (in my opinion).

I did hear you need a brass catcher for that game also. Ar brass can and will crack the inside of a windshield!
