Lots of tracks, or lots of cats?

Well just got back from the line ....... Minus one trap someone and a big dog decided that they wanted it more than me  :bash: they took the cage down the hill then went back up and side hilled all the way around down to another road and then probably drove and got it. Sure pisses me off ! Oh ya it was one of my new ones too  >:(

sorry to here that. I started locking my traps to trees. I know it might just slow them down or at least make some of them think twice.

Trapping in snow makes it too easy for thieves. Sucks!

ya I know my toilet paper trick usually works but only if they come in on the same path ( after you walk in 50 feet put a couple wads of toilet paper right so it looks like that's all you were doing and they won't go past it)
Kinda surprised because it snowed enough where my tracks were gone . I think the dog found it first .
I guess this is part of trapping now days or I guess just life that you gotta lock everything up so it doesn't walk away

I've had several stolen, I even had one stolen that had a cat in it. I had one area that had  4 traps in it maybe 2 or 3 miles apart and any where from 20 ft to 100 yds off the road. Found them all in the middle of the main road standing on end . A dog found them for his owner I'm guessing

Anyone try to lock their traps down?  I was thinking a couple earth anchors would reduce the chances of a box trap from walking off.

I did once and set a game camera on.It. got several great pictures of a 4 wheeler hooked up to the trap with mule tape. If they want they will get it even if it's means destroying it

Bummer. That sucks. I hate thieves!!!! I worry about that every day. As mentioned trapping in the snow is dangerous....for your traps anyway.

There was a guy in one of my areas who I suspect was/is illegally hunting cats with one or two dogs.  I've seen him and his dogs.  The dogs are hounds on the big size and have the typical orange collars with the brass tags riveted to them.  I'm pretty sure his dogs find my cages and bark 'treed' or something and he throws my cages around to vent his frustration.  I see the footprints and found one of my cages UPHILL from the set.  Somebody got one of my cats out of a cage on my property a while ago. The cage was about 150 yards down a steep finger from the road.  So I know he didn't see it from the road.
