2016 Chevy Colorado/ GMC Canyon w/diesel motor
« on: December 30, 2015, 02:07:27 PM »
Just curious if anyone is buying one of these trucks with the new diesel motor.

Rated at 22/31 mpg for 2 wheel drive and 20/29 for 4 wheel drive.

Engine is a 4 cylinder turbo with 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.

I'm waiting to check out the New Nissan Titan with the Cummins in it.  Curious to see how well it's put together based on Nissan's reputation.

Sounds very very cool. I also agree with the article wanting a manual transmission option. I just cant see spending that much on a pickup of any size.

Sounds interesting. I would love to buy a used one in a few years for a commuter rig.

Anyone know, is this a Motori, now Fiat, based diesel engine??

I know, at least at one time, GM had some amount of ownership or deal with Motori/Fiat for their diesels.

I would have a hard time buying any new diesel trucks. The new emissions crap makes lots of extra sensors that keep rigs in the shop... Ill be watching closely so that in 3 years I can buy a used one and put an emissions delete kit in it.

Why 3 years? What happens then?

All the problems with emissions stuff is sort of a thing of the past. EGR coolers on 6.0L I guess but even us replacing them is a lot more rare than it was a couple years ago. They've got things a lot more ironed out now. Back in '08-'10 there were huge issues no doubt.

RAYONG, THAILAND appears to be the manufacturing site and engines are shared in Isuzu's in the global market.

GM owns rights to codeveloped ecodiesel with fiat used in jeep and dodge 1/2 tons. I love it - 25-27 mpg and tows 8600 lb no problem.  420 ft lbs makes a nice ecodiesel.

I guess I say 3 years may need to be a few more so the rig is no longer under warranties.

Guys I know with the newer fords 6.7 are having lots of emmision control sensor problems they are newer rigs 13 & up.
There are lots of existing designs in use across the globe that are good but we cant seem to get them here. Toyota's come to mind.

EGT(Exhaust gas temperature) sensor is the only "common" issue we're having with them. Very quick and inexpensive fix with a warranty extension due to the commonality of the issues.
Pretty much every vehicle I've ever worked with has one of those type issues.

Well, yes and no.  Motori actually developed it a few years ago but then Fiat acquired all the shares from multiple different sources for Motori so I guess since Fiat owns Motori Diesel anything that was once Motori is now Fiat which is pretty much the same way with Dodge/Chrysler since Fiat owns them, too.

I didn't know the Ram with the ecodiesel was a POS.  Never really hear much about them and I'm not sure if I've ever even seen one on the road.  I've never been a very big fan of Dodge trucks so maybe I just never notice them if they are.

Maybe it is a karma kind of thing- GM was all but ready to put their name on the almost identical VM Motori engine in Europe for their Cadillac version, then the GM bankruptcy thing came along.  Not that the engine is a bad design, but it seems the issues with the motors blowing up tend to be originating from a quality control problem the data suggests.  An example would be main caps improperly torqued during engine assembly at the factory, etc., infrequently happening with relatively low miles.

Mini duramax/Isuzu
This.

If its based off this bulletproof industrial motor then it may be a winner.
