Dodge Ram Steering box questions
«
on:
January 02, 2016, 06:38:42 PM »
Anyone with a 3rd gen ram upgraded to the bigger gear box? Is yours lifted? Mine has a 6" lift and 37's and I'm starting to notice the sector shaft of the gear box has side to side play when the wheel is rocked back and forth. Just wondered if anyone has upgraded and what you went with for a drop pitman arm.
Thanks
Chris

Not sure about a 3rd gen, but a 2nd gen the steering box can rock back and forth on the frame with big tires. I put in a steering box stabilizer to eliminate that flex. While I was at it I slapped in a new steering box.
Here's a source for steering stabilizer gear box brace. Factory direct.

I recommend you give red head a call for the steering gear. They make the best boxes and they're in Auburn.

Thanks! I might add the stabilizer in for now, since that will cure the play in the shaft.
Thanks for the link.

Harvey At Redhead is a good guy ,I've been using him forever . when you call ask for him , otherwise you will get office staff . good people but Harvey is full off knowledge. I have seen a few of the 99-01vintage break gearboxes .
