I've used a red dot on one before. I like them. They help to concentrate the pattern of your gun without having to aim high or low. That's usually a stock fit issue I guess, but the sight will help. If it's for the kids if definitely recommend it.

I use an Aimpoint red dot on mine, because the bead doesn't line up with the densest part of the pattern.

I have a 2-7 on an 870. I love it. I actually sighted in the shotgun.

Red dots are non magnifying, you can put the dot in the densest part of the patt n.

I shoot a red dot also as of last year and love it. I'll never go back. I'm creeping up towards 40 birds in this state and the last two where a couple of the most fun with that sight. Don't listen to cryder,he's talking out of his erskin!

Turned my Benelli Nova into my Turkey Gun. I love it. Really puts the pattern exactly where you want it. I also added a Limb saver recoil pad to tame the 3 1/2 shells and a cheek pad to help align my eye to the scope.
