It's all relative to your equipment. Shooting a .223 at 1000 is about the same difficulty as shooting a .338 at 1900 yards. Everyone can shoot in ideal conditions with 5 rounds to walk it in to the target. The better question would be what's your furthest FIRST round hit with what conditions.

But really. Nobody cares. No mine is bigger!

I would never attempt this at deer or any other game animal, but coyotes I don't care.  Last Febuary with my neighbor spotting for me, 1187 yds.  This last October 872 yds. both ate there last meals.  Both with a 243.

I'm sure you you would try a shot at a fatally wounded animal and let it die a slow death in a posted "No Hunting" area.

I guess I should have quoted back 1 more post. I told about shooting a wounded deer at long range as it was running towards a fenceline posted no hunting. He responded the he would never try a shot like that. I was repeating the circumstance under which I shot. I would never try that shot at a healthy animal and I'm sure he wouldn't either.

Just trying to clear up his confusion about my motive for shooting, that's all.

I believe he was stating he would never shoot at a deer at over a grand like he did the coyotes he was describing.  Pretty sure it had nothing to do with your post.

You're exactly right BLRman, it had nothing to do with Rich_S or anybody elses comments.  Just making my own comment about the main topic in question.  Sorry about the mix up.

I hung a surplus, white painted, warped, eighteen inch dia one inch thick high quality steel block off plate from a water delivery system against a coulee wall at 945 yards from where we camp when in XXXXX rockchuck shooting.

We have wasted ammo at a paint mark on the coulee wall for decades, after dinner when we had nothing else to do if it was still light enough to shoot.  But there was always question as to whether we hit the paint mark or not.

Since putting the plate up it is obvious (boom... .. . ding) and it is really fun seeing if we can deal with the central WA winds.  We hit it more often than the law should allow if we set up a bench and shoot off a tripod front rest and sand bags.
