New WA resident

Hi Everyone,

I've been on here a few times over the years, and I've hunted the Palouse hills a few times while visiting family, but now I'm moving from Utah to the Tri-Cities, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a life long hunter (I'm 34) but have really gotten into bird hunting the last four years when I got my first bird dog, a black Drahthaar named Allie vom Abendlander. LeeRoot may not remember, but we've met at a few VDD tests in ID where he judged her.

Here in Utah I mostly hunt chukar and grouse, and I try to shoot a few ducks every year. For whatever reason, Huns are my absolute favorite to hunt, and I'm excited to hear that they seem to be doing well in WA. We don't have many in Utah, and it's quite a drive to where they live.  I'm looking forward to exploring some new areas and meeting some fellow hunters and bird dog people. If anyone on here lives in the Tri-Cities area and wants to get together for a hunt, dog training, sporting clays, etc. shoot me a PM.

I'll be moving up there somewhere around the 23rd of January, so it looks like I'll miss the WA partridge season. We'll be pretty busy with unpacking and such, but since it's my birthday I've talked by wife into a hall pass on the 30th and/or 31st to go to ID or OR for one more chance at some partridge. Anyone interested in joining me?

Finally, are there any local bird dog or conservation clubs that I should know about? I've been involved with the Utah Chukar and Wildlife Foundation and have been involved with some great projects and met some great people. If there is anything like that in WA I'd love to get involved.

Thanks,

Jeff

I was in Pullman this AM and on the way back I took a short detour (10K) thru the hills. I saw 4 covey of hun and one of quail. No ditch chickens though. I was surprised to see that many.

Jeff, the WDFW website is a tremendous research tool. Under Harvest Statistics you can match the counties of highest Hun harvest with the Public Hunting/Wildlife Areas. The current Waterfowl & Upland Bird Regs. have the harvest totals by county and specie, as well.

Visit the local WDFW Regional Office near the Tri-Cities and ask Questions:

Welcome to Hunt Wa, and Washington! I also live in Kennewick, it is a pretty good place. This has been a good year for all birds, seems like I have seen more this year than last.
