damage elk tags?
« on: January 03, 2016, 06:19:30 PM »
how do they work? I was offered a damage elk tag but the guy said I need to buy a damage tag for $22 at the license vendor. I was under the impression I only needed a valid un notched elk tag? Anyone have any experience?

They have changed those. There was a few white tail tags like that this year. I think you still have to have an unnotched elk tag. Good luck.
If it aint broke, dont fix it.

It's $22.50 for the depredation tag, in addition to your regular elk tag.  I have one for later this month, and I'm more than happy to pay the fee to fill the freezer.  Good Luck!

They are now considered a second elk tag.  This way it keeps separate from general season harvest.  Just make sure you have the permit and tag in hand and follow the rules on the permit and you are good to go.

Thanks guys! Went and purchased the tag and dropped my daughter off at preschool. Took off up to the orchard to find an elk. 100yds up the orchard road spotted a big cow bedded down between trees about 50yds. I jumped out and shot her in the neck with my .300. Easiest hunt ever!

I'm curious what "being offered" a damage tags means. Did you apply for it or is it a master hunter thing?
