What would you like to see in a 3d target ?
« on: January 04, 2016, 06:34:56 AM »
Every year in the spring I look forward to shooting 3ds. I get so frustrated with the ten ring placement on most of the targets made . I'd like to see the real vital zone scored for archery rather than the forward placement we typically see. Say a heart shot scores a ten and lungs a eight then a spine shot a five . the thought of hitting foam for five bugs me. We all know those fives are typically lost animals . I generally just shoot where I feel is the best kill shot. maybe someone on here has some pull with a manufacture . I know some will say the rump should be a 5 or 8 too but for ethics sake I wont go there . You know Brian targets would go nicely with broad heads ....lol

I hear what your saying. The 10ring is often where the heart would be but the 8ring often overlaps onto the shoulder.
Most rhinehearts ans McKenzie targets are sold to clubs for the purpose of competive 3dshoots. Rules are made by IBO or NFAA. If you really want to up your score you need to buy or print a 3dtarget guide that helps you find the 10 ring.  I think delta makes some personal deer targets that have the organs on them.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

One problem you would have is do you just make it accurate for broadside placement or quartering away, quartering to?  To many variables to say "I want accurate kill zones"  Has to be some kind of standardization.

This is why I will never be a "competitor" in any 3d I ever shoot.  I shoot them to prepare for hunting season so I will always place my shot where it should be placed if it was a real world hunting situation.  It's muscle memory.   Gotta train the brain.

You could go hi tech and have a sensor inside in the vital hit area. Regardless of angle if it hits the heart area a light comes on or buzzer sounds. Quarter away or to...

Always thought someone would come up with a hi-stretch 'mid-section' cover that could be slid into a more hunting friendly position on a target.  Never happened.  Missed my chance at millions I'm sure.
