Need some advice...
« on: December 30, 2015, 08:30:56 AM »
I bought my first bow just about a month ago, a diamond carbon cure.  The reviews seemed good and It seems to shoot pretty well (not that I have anything to compare to).  My problem is that after shooting about 100 arrows the string seems to be shreading. After some more research I have found this to be a common problem with this bow. My questions are...  Does anybody know of a fix to this problem?  If not does anybody have any suggestions of a bow to switch to that's in the realitive price range?  I can return it for about another week.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Do you have a local bow shop with which you are developing a relationship? If not, you should find one. Can you post a picture of the damage?

I live on orcas island and the nearest shop is in mt Vernon, riverside archery.  They have been great so far. I purchased my wife's bow from them and wish I had done the same for myself.  The problem is it takes a whole day to get over there due to the ferries.  So I was wondering if anybody had advice before I can get back over there.  I'll try to get a picture but not sure if it will work.

It looks like it's hitting the cable harness. That sucks. You might ask them if there's a fix for that. I just talked with Archery World down here in Vancouver and the only fix they suggest is a bandaid by doing a heavier serving. You should contact Bowtech and they might be willing to do something about it and might not. I'd be interested in finding out how they treat you on this. This is a problem which affects several Diamonds and Bowtechs, apparently.

It's a design flaw with the draw module.  Bowtech has a fix.  Get with the guys at Riverside, and they should be able to get you fixed up.  In the mean time don't shoot the bow any more.

Old Dog is right on the money

Most companies run into this with modules now and again.  Not a big deal as long as the company gets the fix in right away.  Sounds like Bowtech/Diamond did.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Just an update... I went into riverside and they said they have no permanent fix. after reading more about other people's experience with sending the bows back to bow tech and having the same problem when it is returned I decided to return the bow.  Just in case there is another newbie reading this I'll pass on a bit of advice they gave me, archery stuff rarely goes on clearance and there is usually a reason for that.  I ended up buying a Mathews mission blaze and couldn't be happier.  While the guys at riverside were setting it up they got 2 phone calls about the carbon cure and had other guys bring them in all with the same problem as mine.

Were you able to get warranty replacement or a refund, or is it a total loss for you?

I think I was there when you came in the first time to ask them about it.
Riverside gives great service and shoots you pretty straight. Custom cut arrows tend to be the same price or cheaper than some big box stores and the cut your arrows to lenght. You wont be sorry being one of thier customers.

Ended up getting store credit. I still had room in the budget for some new clothes so I shouldn't have a problem spending it.  My understanding is that bow tech does not warrantee strings or problems with strings.... Sounds to me they know what's going on but don't want to deal with it.  That particular model is no longer in their current line...
The guys at riverside are awesome! I'll be shopping there from now on...

Thanks for all the advice!

"Buy locally" is especially important with archery. I've had a relationship with my local shop for 20+ years. It's made a huge difference in my equipment choices and learning curve. Now, if it could make more of a difference in my harvest success, I'd really have it made!  :chuckle:
