ATV's w/Tracks
« on: January 04, 2016, 10:03:12 AM »
Does anybody have an ATV outfitted with tracks?  Interested in purchasing but spoke to a salesman at Mattracks in Minnesota and he told me my Kodiak 400 is to small to put track on. Just curious if anybody has experience with these  Thanks, Ken.

Ya you need a 750 min.  It takes a lot more power to turn the tracks.

We run a lot of tracks in Alaska and they do take a bunch of power. You could possibly clutch for it, but it will be quite the load on a 400.

used Camoplast tracks in Idaho during a cougar hunt. The Polaris Ranger would go anywhere and they were awesome. THey went anywhere in the snow just like a snowmobile.  I was told they are the best and can be used all year long. Talked with the guys in Ellensburg and they said the same.  5K for a set.  Thinking about it for my 900 Polaris Crew.

Check into a Dalton Clutch kit for your ATV, if they make them for yours. $150 installed on my 500 Can Am and it puts more power to the ground with better hookup.

They will set you up with the best product/system at the best price. Also, IMO the 700cc class atv is the minimum. Power steering is really nice in deep heavy snow.

I have a set of Camoplast for my can-am 650. The first install is kind of a pain, after that its just a little more work than changing the wheels and tires. They will let you go any where in the snow but make the machine very top heavy. DO NOT side hill in the snow.

I've never been in a UTV with tracks, but I imagine it would be similar.

UTV's also. The hubs mount to the top of the tracks so they lift the entire vehicle.  Just like putting a lift on a truck.

Thanks for the contact with Kevin and Gary at ATVTracks.net.  Called them and got my questions answered, now seeing if the fun fund can handle it.

I am selling a set of 2012 camoplast tatou 4s tracks for my folks. They sold the ATV they had them on separately so they have no use for them now. I was the one that used them the most and it wasn't much. Only took them out last year once and the year before they didn't even get put on. The reason being they always had problems with their atv not wanting to start so I was the only one brave or stupid enough to take them in the mountains in winter. They are set up to mount on a Arctic Cat 700 but you can purchase the different mounting brackets for other atv's. Asking $2750.00 and they are located in Spokane Valley. PM me if anyone is interested.

My buddy has some on his 700 Polaris. He said that thing will go anyplace, made me really jealous, since we have a foot of perfect snow to use them and coyote/bobcat hunt behind the house.

Just saw this thread.
As Woodchuck said, I have a set of Tatou 4s on a 700 Yamaha.  I have used them for the last 3 or 4 winters and will say that the 700 is about the minimum for power....especially in wet snow.  The previous owner of mine had a clutch kit put in it, but you can still smoke the belt if you are not careful.  It will go just about anywhere even with 2 people on board.
On mine, the odometer is off with the tracks on...it will read 10 miles traveled when you have only gone 6.  Mine has power steering, but there are times when you can not turn the handle bar....have to see-saw back and forth to turn around.  Good rig for looking for cat tracks tho'
It never changes, but it is always different.
