Tikka Win. 300 Mag
« on: January 05, 2016, 09:45:22 AM »
Been hunting a few years on and off, was passed down a rifle from my grandpa that is old military rifle converted to 30.06 hunting rifle. the scope on it is cracked and water gets in it and fogs it up. When I have had good opportunities to shoot, haven't had the best of luck.  All that being said I have asked around to a few friends and they recommended Tikka. Any advice? Best place to buy a new gun? I have a Cabelas CC but seems over priced by about $100 compared to other places I have looked on the internet.
Thanks

Is there a Sportsmans Warehouse close to Everett? If so you might try that.

Be aware the Tikka is a light rifle and in a 300 Win Mag recoil may not be pleasant.

You may want to shoot a Tikka first, before you buy, and see if you like it.

Thanks guys, yeah I have shot one once before, wasn't to bad. Appreciate all the advice. Worth looking into a muzzle break?
Scope wise I am looking into Vortex Scope, 4X12 possibly 4X16. Any suggestions?

You don't need a brake in less you plan on melting the barrel  down . I'd grab the wsm and not look back .

Andy is a great guy.
I bought all 3 of my Tikkas from him.
300WSM is a good cartridge.
I have a Limbsaver pad on mine but you WILL know when you touch one off.
Big recoil but not punishing.
Never get a brake.

I've dealt with East County Guns a few times, but I'm not sure I'd make the drive from Everett.  :dunno:

www.gungenie.com they beat everybody. The take care of all the taxes, shipping, no transfer fee. Just give them a down payment and your gun shipped to the dealer of your choice and pay the rest to the dealer, paperwork and your done. I use them alot.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Why would you say never get a break? All of my 300 wsm's have brakes and I would never go back because I could shoot them all day long and its like shooting my 243. For my money, the brakes on my rifles are worth every cent I have paid for them.  :twocents:

:yeah: I have a Tikka t3 lite stainless chambered in .300 win mag.  I use it as my "go to" elk rifle.  I would definitely advise putting a Limbsaver pad on as well as replacing the factory rings with something sturdier.  The recoil when shooting Tikka in .300 win mag is manageable but it isn't pleasant.  I do think it's a great set up for an elk rifle (carry it up and down mountains for a week and shoot it once).  Just my  thoughts....

 :yeah:

I also have a tikka 300 win and absolutely love it.  One of the best things that I did was to replace to factory stock with a bell & carlson.  The recoil is much least and it's a pleasure to shoot.  The factory recoil pad sucks.  :twocents:
