Someone talk to me about Stary Flounder
« on: February 11, 2016, 03:18:20 PM »
So I want to flounder fish out at Nisqually and am I seeing correctly that it is year round? Is there a limit? Is there a prime season to go? I'm not finding much info, but duck hunting is over and I need meat in my freezer and something to catch! Plus my wife likes eating flounder unlike most other fish.

Eats fine. My go to rig is a sinker on the main line, swivel, leader to a small steelhead jig tipped with a little chicken. U drift it along.  The sinker will catch on little rocks and twitch it along.  I think i5 makes the jig look like a little shrimp.

Is there a limit? Also is there a time of year that's better or is it truly year round?

Flounder, fish year round no problem. Sandy bottom areas are best but I have caught them about any where.

Picked them up on darts while salmon fishing or a small chunk of about any bait (herring, clams, worm, shrimp, etc....) on a hook. I will use a bottom rig, with weight on bottom and two hook off three way swivels.

Without looking at the regs, I believe it's 15 per person per day.

It's 5 O'clock somewhere.......

I don't understand this, if you have internet access to post on HW, why not go to WDFW.wa.gov and look up the regs?  This is a much more reliable way to figure out what you can do.   :dunno:

Starrys are the best of the flounders out there IMO, and they can be the largest.

Thanks. I had read it, but wanted to talk to someone who had actually done it.

I do best at slack tide, using the small white point Wilson dart, just keep it bouncing on the bottom. Usually only takes a few minutes to get one on. Yea I believe the limit is 15. Williapa use to be really good for them. Cant remember what time of year. But the starrys there weighed around the 5 lb range. And sometimes bigger.
