I love them, have them in all my rigs and the wife's rig. Use them for work every day but they are nice when driving down the road together, or if you know what channels the truckers use on the hiways in bad weather or accidents. And of course if you are in the woods in an active logging area. Enjoy!

I have been using them for a loooooong time. Great for short range coms, don't got to worry about cell service.
Install a linear booster and you can talk for miles and miles and miles. Old school but still good. you will have fun with it.

Yeah back in the day we had one in our camp wired to a car battery. Had a apartment antenna .
Before FRS. and GPS.
When my friend got shot elk hunting back in the 80 s in the Nile. We relayed a call for ambulance through the Woodshed Restraunt.

I still have an old "base station" in a box just in case. You never know.

Buy a swr meter, or find a radio shop to tune it! Might not seem like a big deal, but it really is. I picked up my swr for less then 20$ through amazon.
