My first catch!

... and release. I just got my license a couple months ago and my wife got me some traps for Christmas. I had planned to head up in the mountains last week but the weather was so bad that I couldn't get up the forest service roads near Greenwater. I ended up putting them in a little wooded tract on my own property. The wife texted me this morning that the kids found a squirrel in one of my traps and let it go for me. Just a squirrel so not nearly big enough to make my own trapping hat out of.

Still on the hunt for an ol' timer who wants a greenhorn trapper as a new best friend. ;-)

Hey, at least you're on the scoreboard now. It's a good start. There ought to be an ol' timer in your area to trap with. I am lucky enough to have an ambitious, strong kid help me out this year. I love having someone else pack those cages up and down the hills.

Congrats on your first catch. Keep after it, regardless of whether you find a mentor. It is worth it and some day you will be that seasoned Ol' Timer.

I don't know any old timers that arnt full of themselves and arnt still butt hurt about losing the foot holds, but I'm right down the way from green water in the Buckley area on my first year trapping! Where are you at?

yea we old timers dont want to tell ever thing because we had to learn on are on . i know i did down an dirty +. with lots of comption in the old days.

Not much completion now, but seems there is a lot less land that is hunting/fishing/trapping friendly then when I was growing up to back in the day was when I wish I was around! Y'all had the cool cars and trucks good music and room to roam!

Ehhh I got no problem showing people that are new to trapping how to go about it if we want the continuation of trapping in this state we need as many people succeeding in this or they lose interest and quit . Just like hunting and fishing !! I'm showing a rookie the ins and outs this year and he just got some cat traps and he's more eager about trapping then most so I say guys with experience should help some new guys

Ha I work in maple valley at silver streak trucking I probably drive past you every day! So far I'm at two missed mink one gray squirrel and 8 muskrats there is a lot of good water trapping to be had in your area¡ IV seen beaver and muskrat in bass lake fish lake lake 12...lots of good sign on newaukem creek in the farmland to!

Funny, I was just looking at the lake 12 maps a little while ago trying to figure out if trapping there was legal. It looks like it's mostly private property except King County Parks owns the land on the Eastern shore. I was thinking of heading over to scope it out tomorrow.

If I'm reading this right it seems like land owned by king county parks is off limits for hunting/trapping.

I have a hard time reading there diffinitions hopefully someone will chime who knows better then me cause I know lake 12 is loaded with beaver and rats and the slough around the black diamond hiking trail looks very promising to!

I've hiked a lot of the black diamond trails. The ones on the top of the hill are all on private property (the church basically gave permission for hiking trails.) The ones at the bottom are in the black diamond and henry's ridge 'natural areas.' I've not yet discovered what that term even means.
