Snipe hunt

Seriously, I met a couple guys today that came from Eastern Washington to hunt snipe. They had limits, and claimed that they taste like dove. 

 So, what are your thoughts?

We used to knock them dead while hunting upland near streams. Limit used to be 10 if I remember right. They are fun to hunt and a challenge to hit. This was before steel shot was required. Oh the memories.

Snipe are a blast to hunt!! Really small and really fast. It's a great challenge. If you do get enough of them saved up, they are quite tasty!

Where are there snipe?   I thought I saw some in the Winston years ago, not much bigger than a robin.

Well, I'm new to Washington so I'm not sure about here. But my experience has been marshy areas. I would walk around marshes and flush them. I would guess there are probably more snipe in eastern washington. They are migratory, so I don't know how long they would stick around here.

I'm surprised the numbers are as high as they are.  The breast is about the size of a golf ball to racquetball, but they are tasty.  They are also hard to ID if you don't know what to look for as there are many shorebirds that look similar.

I was at Scatter Creek Wed., and took Jasmine to a flooded area in the grass where she pointed a group of three, which I thought was unusual.  I usually only find singles.  She pointed a single as well.  I wasn't hunting snipe, so I just used it as a training moment.

i'd like to see someone get more than 1 or 2 in a day...the only time i ever see those things is when i'm walking into a river in the early morning and about step on one.  just like a grouse, really wakes you up
