I'm thinking of applying there for elk...

I was stationed there for 5 years and had one spot I liked. You can get there a couple of different ways, but so you can find it on the map...Drive to Evanston WY and then north on HWY16 to Woodruff, UT. Take a left on 39 and look on the map for the Strawberry Ridge area. Respectable amount of elk/moose and lots of mule deer. Road is not snow maintained so a late hunt would be iffy without a snowmobile.
I've only ever been near the hills once a few years ago for my little brothers wedding, but those peaks are calling to me! Absolutely stunning country!

Honestly have to say that I think there are several units in Utah I'd look at before I chose the Wasatch Front. I think you'll find the peaks you spoke of are not where the majority of the deer and elk are: most are in the lower areas near the streams that come down and there's so much of it private that it can be very frustrating to hunt. Open areas get very heavy pressure. Look the hunting guide over carefully. Mantis, San Juans, Unitah units have more public ground and more elk/deer with less pressure. Just my opinion though.
BLR,I have a good friend that lives in Utah and has all the answers you need.Just Sayin.
From what I've seen BLR's mind works just fine and can handle the pressure.Just Sayin.
