Honda CRV
« on: January 15, 2016, 06:03:30 PM »
So I am about to buy a 2016 CRV ....I start a new career path in a week and we were needing a second vehicle anyway. I looked at the Ford Escape, Toyota Rav4, and the Honda. I'M usually a ford/American made guy and honestly thought the Escape would be less expensive for a comparably rig. After driving all three, comparing features, and suits us the best. Anyone have one, want to share your opinions and experience?  Lifetime powertrain, transmission, and AWD component warranty and 2 year service included in purchase for essentially the same price as the Escape. Toyota is nice but sight lines are horrible for my 4'8" fiance and it is more expensive.

We have a 2013.  Bought it new,now has 31,000 miles on it. Honda makes maintenance very easy.  I change the oil by the OLM, generally about 7000 miles. ATF every other oil change.  An ATF drain and refill is about 3 qts.

Around town we get about 22-23 mpg. On the highway low 30s. I towed a little utility trailer and a couple dirt bikes to Moses Lake.  Got 24 there and back. I tow a 14' Lund a few times a year.

Probably the favorite small vehicle we've owned.

If you haven't yet, test drive it at night. A lot of people think the head lights are lacking.  They're fine IMO.

I have a 99. Almost can't compare them I guess! But I love it. Really impressed with it. Underpowered, but it's engineered to work with it. Honda's are good cars.

When we were searching for a new vehicle a few months ago, I had narrowed the choices down to either a Toyota RAV4 or a Hond CRV, with the Mazda CX-5 as the outlier.
All had All-wheel drive and depending on trim line similarly equipped and MPG about the same with outstanding reliability. I throughout the Ford Escape even though they are very close in features and price, extended reliability was not there. Everyone I talked to who owns the escape loved their car, all had major problems within the first couple years.
Basically it came down too the test drive. The CRV and the RAV4 both drove very well. My wife liked the CRV I liked the RAV4 a little better. When we went back the following week for a second drive, I made the mistake of letting my wife drive a loaded 2014 Nissan Murano with 9k miles on it. We bought the Murano, lol
I think both CRV and RAV4 are great vehicles, it just comes down to your preference.
We both also liked the new Honda HRV crossover, they Had loaded all wheel drive 2016s for 20k!
We just wanted a little more room in back, but I would not hesitate to buy one for a great commuter.
PS: If you look at last years models CRV and RAV4 with low miles you can save thousands over a 2016 for basically the same car.

I will stick with my jeep, something like that isn't suitable fr my needs. However, I had a roommate in hawaii with one.... Bout all I know is you better have the timing belt serviced before its too late, and because it is an interference engine, lose the timing belt, your motor is trash. Painful lesson, glad it wasn't my ride
catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.
Forget the bear spray, use wasp killer. Concentrated delivery stream, 10X the product, and only $3.00 on sale.
