You want American or chinese.  You want something with a forever warranty that you will end up using or something with a forever warranty that you will never use.  Easy choice Leupold.

Another one to consider, supposed to be more reliable than Leupold if you're spinning turrets...

Oh, and some Vortex optics are made in Japan. I know my Viper binoculars are, if that matters.

Your binoculars say made in Japan on them or the Box?  The Viper line used to be made in the philippines.  My guess is they outsource to best manufacturer for the price they can.  But still is not America.

I've set up rifles with both and I would go leupold.  Can usually get a good price on the vx3 when cabelas runs a sale.

Good deals to be had on the Leupolds right now, since they're updating the VX-3's (again!)

They are calling the new model VX-3i.

This is why the Country is in the *censored*ter.  It has nothing at all to do with quality.  It has everything to do with American jobs.  I fully agree that there are some products that are made in China that are better and cheaper then domestic counterparts.  Thats not the point though.  But at least Japan and European optic manufacturers pay their employees a living wage unlike China.

Yes, my Vortex Vipers say "Made in Japan." I've also had Diamondbacks and they say "Made in China."

Between the 2, I'd go leupold. Vortex isn't junk by any means, but you can bet when you buy a leupold it will be crystal clear through its full power range and eye relief is still easilly attained on high power settings. As the Vortex that's not exactly true for all of the scopes they offer.

If your going Vortex do allot of research to be sure the scope can be used for its full intended purpose. You'll probably save a few bucks over the leupold if you choose the right one the first time.

As for Leupold, pick the one that suits your needs and start shopping, no need to research it because it WILL work.

Last year I dropped my gun in the rocks,
Landed right on the leupold scope, same one as you mentioned, put a huge scrape on it and I thought for sure it would be off! Nope still dead on!
