Looks great. I can't imagine a better elk rifle than that. Especially if a lot of follow up shots are required. Hopefully you'll get to test it out on your guided hunt. Will you be in Utah?

This is far too light a caliber for elk, so please sell it to me at a tremendous discount to recup a little of your money.

Of course, I only extend this generous offer to you if you load up 300+ rounds of that load as part of the deal........   I don't fire form.

I'm actually supposed to go on a cow elk hunt with Bearpaw at the end of the month with my dad and my son (if I can get away from work!) I'm really trying to get this up and running by then! I won't have a chance to get out again until next Sunday though so I'm running out of time.

Well I hope you get a break and can go dump a cow  Elk don't like accubonds :chuckle: I stuck a 225g accubond in my cow at 400 this year. She is delicious but 12 years later I'm still after my first bull :chuckle: This was my first rifle tag all the others have been archery and there is not much tastier then a nice cow or yearling

Looks pretty sweet.  A little heavy for a hunting rifle I would carry but looks pretty sexy.

I feel the same way. I actually built it as a target rifle. The goal was to have a gas gun capable of holding .5 MOA out to 1000 yards under the right conditions. I basically wanted a caliber that could move a bullet with a BC of at least .5 to a minimum 2500 fps. The Grendel does that but without much room to spare. Move the same bullet more than 200 fps faster and I can stretch that range to 1200 yards. Before finding the BRX barrel and corresponding bolt head, I had no interest in building an AR. It was all about finding the right cartridge.

That said, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot anything on 4 legs with this gun under the right conditions. It's not nearly as cool as running the 458 Arnold or one of the 338s or 375s, but I have no doubt that it would work!

It's a tough decision because I'd love to take my 338/375 Ruger Striker along and use that! I had my dad practicing all summer with an old tang safety Ruger 300 Win Mag that he's feeling pretty confident with out to 300 yards off of a set of sticks. If I had more time I'd see how he shoots the new BRX and I'd have him run that instead of the 300. My son is just coming along as a non hunter this trip. Otherwise he'd be all over this BRX!

Yes, we're going to Utah. My son is super excited about it, I'm not so excited about the drive though. We'll leave Tuesday night after I get off work and drive until we get there.

As far as follow up shots, I wouldn't know what to do if I needed one! I'm so used to everything just dropping after the first hit that half the time I don't even load more than 1 round it the gun. Of course I typically shoot calibers in a slightly different class than these small bore plinkers. :chuckle:

Is your .458 Arnold going to be your back up rifle? :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Well, at least in Utah you should have a good odds of getting a long range opportunity. Good luck!

I think those big calibers are bad for the environment. Noise, lead, burning hundreds of grains of powder, etc etc.

Scaring livestock

Bunnies

It's just wrong

That would be great as well. I was at a smiths place and he has a 6.5x47 bolt action pistol proto type. It was so sweet and I was almost bad and ordered one. I am finishing my 6.5 stw and just got a new king thumper 458 lott. So the spare gun fund is down a little :chuckle:

I'll have to pull a trailer for all of my backup rifles! Between the 375 Ruger, 375 BME, 6.5 Badger, 338/375 Rife, 338/375 Striker, 458 Arnold, 300 Win Mag and the 480 Ruger I have so many "appropriate" elk calibers that it would fill the bed of the truck for them to all tag along!

This is far too light a caliber for elk, so please sell it to me at a tremendous discount to recup a little of your money.

Wow, you guys are the best! Looking out for me like that shows your true character. :chuckle:
