Crabbing in Tokeland
« on: January 19, 2016, 09:20:33 AM »
I purchased a couple of crab nets and bait boxes on Amazon, and I'm taking the family crabbing in Tokeland this weekend.

Any experiences to share or tips for a new "crab hunter?" LOL.

The port has been doing allot of dock maintenance and the main crabbing dock was closed down for a while. We should be dropping off a load of crab in the next day or two and I will double check for you. I see people crabbing  off the float slips all the time.

Get a Crabhawk they are a lot of fun to use.  A good stiff steelhead pole with 50lb. line, cast out let sit for 3-5 minutes.

I have used crab snares as well. They work surprisingly well.

I commercial crabbed out of tokeland for a winter.... Pretty desolate, dark times, drank alot of whisky in my rig in the parking lot after hours. Gotta check out wash-away beach, but it wouldn't try to put a pot in the tokeland harbor, especially if the public pier is closed. maybe something in Westport?

Good crab out there, we stuffed over 7000 lbs onto a 30 foot gill netter on opening day of commercial season, one haul. Gotta turn through your gear daily out there, those shifting sands eat pots. Nasty tides in weather out there, the one day we didn't go out, I watched the coast guard unload body bags at the boat launch from a boat that didn't make it. I think that was back in 2010

Razor clams are awesome bait
catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.
Forget the bear spray, use wasp killer. Concentrated delivery stream, 10X the product, and only $3.00 on sale.

I smoke two fish in the morning, I smoke two fish at night, I smoke two fish in de afternoon makes me feel alright
